Members Are Invited to Attend VEC's Annual Meeting May 12

May 3, 2018

Johnson, VT- Vermont Electric Co-op (VEC) will be offering a complimentary breakfast, prizes and the opportunity to learn about developments in the Vermont electricity sector at its annual meeting the morning of May 12 at Smugglers’ Notch Resort. There will be an exhibitor’s showcase and members will also have a final opportunity to vote in VEC’s 2018 director election, and the results will be announced.

In addition, VEC members who ordered free trees as part of VEC’s Energy-Saving Trees Program will be able to pick up their trees to be planted this spring.

The meeting runs from 8am-12pm.

“Unlike other utilities, electric co-ops are member-owned – and that’s why annual meeting, where members can connect directly with VEC staff as well as each other, is so important,” said Victoria Brown, VEC’s interim CEO.

Brown noted that while VEC’s core mission is to provide safe, reliable and affordable power our members, the co-op is motivated by service to the community, rather than profits.

“We depend on feedback and guidance from our members to help us set priorities, and annual meeting is a key opportunity for our members to hear what’s new and voice their opinions about the co-op’s direction,” she said.

At the meeting, VEC leaders will offer updates on the co-op’s activities over the last year as well as a look ahead. Chris Root, Chief Operating Officer of the Vermont Electric Power Company (VELCO) will discuss transmission constraints that are affecting the deployment of wind and solar power in our region.

Prizes to be offered include gift cards to Leunig’s Bistro, Dakin Farm, Sunset Inn, and Price Chopper and nearly a dozen additional national stores like Lowe’s, Home Depot, Kohl’s, L.L. Bean, Petco, Target, and more.
