| Vermont Electric Cooperative power restoration nears completion |
|
July 24, 2012 - Approximately 80 Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) members are still without power as a result of powerful thunderstorms that caused severe damage in several parts of the VEC service territory. Full outage recovery is anticipated by 6:00 p.m., although it is possible that some isolated outages may last into the evening hours. High winds and heavy rainfall caused trees to uproot and fall on power lines resulting in widespread damage to the VEC system. At 10:00 p.m., the peak of this outage event, approximately 6,100 VEC members had no power. Although damage was widespread, the hardest hit areas of VEC’s service territory were in Franklin, Grand Isle and Lamoille Counties. Line workers and tree crews worked throughout the night and will continue today until all outages are restored.
