New Board Design Opens 12 VEC Director Positions in 2010

Finally, the time has come! As you likely remember, at our Annual Meeting in 2009, members voted to create new VEC Director Districts to be implemented in 2010. The new District design is a hybrid, balancing District representation with other positions being elected “at large.” The entire territory has been divided into seven new, larger Districts, each District representing a nearly equal number of members. In addition, five Directors will be elected at large: two from the Eastern Zone and three from the Western Zone.

VEC Seeks 1.88 Percent Increase in Rates |
|
Vermont Electric Cooperative, Inc. (VEC) today asked the Vermont Public Service Board to authorize a 1.88 percent rate increase to go into effect January 1, 2010. The request is primarily driven by increases in operating expenses like rising costs for pension benefits and higher property tax bills. VEC’s vegetation management program to maintain and improve system reliability is another key factor. Expenditures in this area now will help to control future rate increases.

VEC Leads the Smart Grid Revolution |

Earlier this week, the Department of Energy recognized the importance of building a smart grid to meet America’s future electricity needs when it awarded stimulus funds to utilities and related organizations throughout the United States. Vermonters will benefit from an award of $69M that will ultimately empower both consumers and utilities, like Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC), to operate more efficiently.

VEC Launches wattWATCHERS |

Vermont Electric Cooperative, Inc. (VEC) officials announced the launch of a newly redesigned website featuring VEC wattWatchers, a web-based application that will enable VEC customers with smart meters to analyze and manage their electric consumption. Users will be able to toggle between graphs that display hourly or daily usage over a period of up to 90 days.

VEC Board of Directors Signals Support for Wind Project |

Johnson, VT - Vermont Electric Cooperative, Inc. (VEC) announced intentions to partner with Green Mountain Power (GMP) to explore the feasibility of generating wind-power electricity on Lowell Mountain in Orleans County, Vermont. The project, known as Kingdom Community Wind (KCW), would be a source of low cost, low carbon, reliable electricity.
