Each year, VEC employees enthusiastically participate in an annual turkey drive to help local food shelves provide families within our communities a Thanksgiving meal.

In 2009, VEC employees were challenged to donate at least one turkey per employee. Employees recognized this was an extremely difficult year and that more and more members of our communities were facing hard times. Feeling that the situation could not be ignored, VEC employees rallied together and collected over one hundred turkeys for families in northern Vermont.  The frozen birds were delivered to local food shelves including Franklin Grand Isle Community Action, Lamoille Community Food Share and Northeast Kingdom Community Action.

VEC is a not-for-profit, member-owned electric utility employing approximately one hundred employees and operates under the Seven Cooperative Principles which include “Concern for Community.” As we all feel the pressure of difficult economic times, VEC employees are concerned about our friends and neighbors in need, and we continue to give back to our communities where we live and work.
