| VEC Outage Restoration Nearly Complete |
|
Published 12.05.2010 5:00 p.m. Johnson, VT- At 5:00 p.m. approximately 135 Vermont Electric Cooperative (VEC) members remain without power in the wake of Wednesday’s damaging wind storm. At the peak, about 12,500 VEC members lost service due heavy damage to electric lines and more than 100 broken utility poles. Members in the areas of Underhill and Essex are currently affected. VEC expects to have these customers reconnected later this evening. “The magnitude of damage resulting from this strong wind storm has been unprecedented,” said Jeffrey Wright, Chief Operating Officer. “VEC employees, along with a tremendous amount of support from other utility crews, worked relentlessly to remove fallen trees and repair broken lines.” This weather event and resulting service disruptions will go down as the most costly and extensive power outage in VEC history.
