VEC Commissions New Enosburg Substation

Published 07/07/2009
Johnson, VT - Vermont Electric Cooperative, (VEC) representatives commissioned the new transmission substation in Enosburg during the early morning hours of Sunday June 28th. Customers of the Village of Enosburg experienced a three hour power interruption Sunday morning, while the final connections and safety checks were made to provide a more reliable transmission source. “The old facility was the cause of most transmission related outages in past years,” said Jeffrey Wright, Chief Operating Officer.. “The new substation will improve transmission reliability for all VEC members between Highgate and Newport and will also serve as a new electrical transmission connection for the Village of Enosburg,” added Wright.

The $1.6M substation project is the first of four steps VEC is taking to rebuild the aging transmission infrastructure across the northern part of Vermont. This particular project is part of VEC’s long range 10 year infrastructure plan that is designed to significantly improve member satisfaction by reducing outages. “VEC’s aging infrastructure is in need of upgrades,” said Wright. The completion of the Enosburg project exemplifies VEC commitment to improving service to our members and keeping our facilities safe for our employees.”
