VEC Employees Adopt Four Families This Holiday Season |
Published 12/22/2008 Johnson, VT – Vermont Electric Cooperative, Inc. (VEC) employees concerned about families going without during the holiday season pulled together to donate clothing, toys and other items. On Monday, deliveries were made to local Community Action Agencies to fulfill the wish lists of four Northern Vermont families.
In order to raise the funds, a VEC lineworker generously donated a beef cow to be raffled off. Proceeds raised through employee purchase of tickets and general donations were then used to shop for the families. On Friday afternoon employees took turns wrapping the gifts to be distributed.
“This is the third year that we have adopted families in our service territory,” said Laurie Desautels. She and Angela Perron initiated this project three years ago. “It gives us such a great feeling to help out families in the community who are less fortunate then us. We really appreciate the generosity of all of our co-workers in helping to make this possible,” added Perron.
VEC is a not for profit, member owned electric utility employing approximately one hundred people in Northern Vermont. Like other cooperatives nationwide VEC operates under the Seven Cooperative Principles which includes Concern for Community.
