Johnson, VT – Vermont Electric Cooperative, Inc. (VEC) announced today that it will be hosting the 70^th Annual Meeting of the Membership on Saturday, May 10, 2008 at Smugglers’ Notch Resort. The meeting will begin at 10:00 a.m. preceded by a complimentary breakfast beginning at 8:30 a.m.

 “We encourage all of our membership to join us for Annual Meeting,” said Dave Hallquist, CEO. “As a Cooperative we are governed by the Seven Cooperative Principles, one of those is Democratic Member Control,” Hallquist added. Cooperatives are democratic organizations controlled by their members, who actively participate in setting policies and making decisions. Elected representatives are accountable to the membership. 

The guest speaker is Stephen Wark, Director of Consumer Affairs and Public Information with the Department of Public Service. Wark has been leading a process of public engagement regarding Vermont’s Energy Future and has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive, statewide process on energy planning focused on energy supply choices facing the state beginning in 2012.
